What should I expect / wear?
Functional Massage is a little different from the relaxation-focused spa treatments that the word ‘massage’ can bring to mind. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and right there with them is your return to a free, active lifestyle.
We recommend comfortable clothing, such as what you might wear to hike, practice yoga, exercise, or dance. Many of our clients choose not to disrobe at all, and for those that do, we uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and draping.
While some techniques may cause some discomfort, we want to stay at or below the level of ‘therapeutic pain’ – around a 4 out of 10 on your personal intensity scale. It is counterproductive to the bodywork session if what we’re doing increases your tension! Your therapist will stay in communication about your experiences during the treatment, and we encourage you to speak up for your preferences. We won’t quit on you – but there’s always another way to reach our mutual goals.
